What Is It?

Knee pain is a common issue that affects individuals of all age groups. The knee, an incredibly resilient hinge-like joint in our body, bears significant stress during our everyday activities. Being the largest joint in the body, it consists of a complex network of bones, ligaments, cartilage, and tendons that work together harmoniously to facilitate basic movements like bending. Additionally, the knee possesses a remarkable rotational capability, enabling athletes to pivot gracefully on the basketball court or for anyone to effortlessly turn around and greet someone behind them.

To fully understand knee pain, it’s important to explore how the knee functions within our body, its susceptibility to injuries, and the implications of experiencing discomfort. Moreover, we seek to uncover potential treatments for knee pain. This journey starts with gaining insights into the intricate internal structures of the knee, their synchronized movements, and their crucial role in protecting and supporting the joint.

Why Is It Happening?

Common knee injuries include:

  1. Arthritis: Degeneration of joint cartilage, causing stiffness and bone changes.
  2. Tendinitis: Inflammation and injury of knee tendons due to repetitive activity or trauma.
  3. Bursitis: Inflammation of fluid-filled cushions around the knee joint.
  4. Torn knee cartilage: Result of forceful twisting, causing swelling, pain, and popping sensation.
  5. Dislocated kneecap: Rare injury from trauma or accidents.
  6. Sprained ligaments: Occur with forceful knee movements or repetitive actions.
  7. Muscle tears: Sharp blows or forceful movements causing torn muscle fibers.
  8. Cyst formation: Swelling in the back of the knee, possibly indicating other issues.
  9. Patellofemoral pain syndrome: Common in active individuals, causing pain during activities like squatting or running.
